Jammu, Aug 2: The Jammu State Movement on Saturday announced a peaceful demonstration on August 4 at the Maharaja Hari Singh Statue near Tawi Bridge, Jammu, to press for separate statehood for the Jammu region and highlight what it described as long-standing regional imbalance and discrimination. The decision was taken at a meeting of the organisation, where members discussed the future course of the movement and issues concerning the Jammu region. The meeting also noted growing support for the movement from districts including Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Ramban. The organisers decided to strengthen the movement across these districts and expand public outreach programmes in the coming months. The Jammu State Movement also appealed to people across the Jammu division, including youth, women, farmers, traders, employees, students and civil society members, to participate in the protest.
