Mine is walking down the hill to choose my weekly stack of books at Karori Library and the librarian checking out the books is my mother, Norma. It got the playwright in him thinking and he turned that story into Local Library, a two-handed play that’s now at Circa. This infuriates the senior librarian, Helen Nielsen, played by Jude Gibson, who bans him for a period as punishment. Ultimately, as Dave Armstrong says, Local Library is a love letter to books and to libraries. But overall, I think Mum would have loved Local Library, and I’d have been over the moon to go to it with her.
