Al‑Mahwit – The Houthi militia has introduced new restrictions on social gatherings in Al‑Khabet district, banning women’s wedding celebrations during evening hours and obliging families to hold them only in daylight. Violators face financial fines, part of which will be directed to Houthi enforcement units, according to an official document issued by the militia‑appointed district director. Women’s weddings have customarily been held at night for decades, with evening hours considered more suitable for such events, especially given the high daytime temperatures. Locals stressed that this measure is not the first of its kind, but part of a broader series of restrictions the militia has imposed on social and religious life. The decision has fueled mounting resentment among communities and tribal groups, who view the policy as another manifestation of the Houthis’ repressive governance.
