Aden – The Republic of Yemen on Saturday, August 1, 2026, welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of an agreement to implement the second phase of the comprehensive peace plan for the Gaza Strip, focused on disarming militant factions.
President Trump had announced Thursday that the “Peace Council” he chairs reached an agreement on disarming Hamas and other armed factions in Gaza, calling it a “turning point” in the implementation of his 20‑point plan to end the war.
An international stabilization force, alongside a newly formed Palestinian police unit, will be deployed to secure Gaza.
Trump said the deal represents a crucial step toward placing Gaza under a new Palestinian government working in coordination with the Peace Council, while ensuring Israel gains “the security it deserves.”
Meanwhile, sources within Hamas told AFP on Friday that a national committee established by the Peace Council to administer Gaza will oversee the storage or retention of the group’s weapons, under arrangements reached with Israel.
