SRINAGAR: The Jammu Division of Northern Railway recovered nearly Rs 78 lakh in penalties during a month-long ticket-checking drive in July, detecting more than 10,000 cases of ticketless and irregular travel, officials said on Sunday. According to railway officials, the special enforcement campaign was launched across the division to curb ticketless travel, unauthorised travel in higher classes, carriage of unbooked luggage, and other violations of railway regulations. The inspections were carried out by ticket-checking staff through surprise and routine checks on mail, express and passenger trains, besides major railway stations across the Jammu Division.
