World Boxing Organization (WBO) President, Gustavo Olivieri, has released his organization’s official statement regarding the recent purse bid proceedings between WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney and mandatory challenger Keyshawn Davis, held on July 30, from the WBO world headquarters in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Calling the purse amount too low, former WBO lightweight world champion Davis, 15-0 (10 KOs), rejected the over $2 million that would've been mandated to him, choosing instead to relinquish his mandatory position in the rankings and abandon the proposed showdown. Champion Haney was set to earn USD $6.4125 million (or 75 per cent) if Davis had accepted. “Accordingly, the matter will formally be referred to the WBO Championship Committee and Ratings Committee, which shall convene and render the appropriate ruling, pursuant to the WBO, World Championship Rules and Regulations.” The development leaves three-weight world champion Devin Haney, 33-0, 15 (KOs), and father, head trainer, and manager Bill Haney, uncertain of their next move.
