Politico revealed a few days aga that some Democrats in New Jersey are admitting that President Trump’s assessemnt of the number of noncitizens registered to vote in New Jersey might not be high enough.
“It’s the honor system,” said Hunterdon County Board of Elections Administrator Beth Thompson, who also leads the New Jersey Association of Election Officials.
It’s unclear how many noncitizens have registered to vote in New Jersey beyond the one-year period Sherrill cited.
While New Jersey political insiders don’t know if that’s true, they’re almost certain it’s more than 6,600.
“The presumption is that people slipped through the cracks,” said one Democratic political operative who works closely with voter rolls, granted anonymity to speak candidly on the subject.
