Several years ago, Mayor Baird and I were on different sides of an issue. He picked up the phone, came to Kansas City City Hall, we met with each other and our staffs, came to a solid resolution, and it ended with us learning more about each other’s communities—and our differences never spilled into a distasteful public back and forth.
