The harbourmaster called Border Force, and when officers searched the boat, they discovered five males below deck. The court was previously told the five, four men and one teenager, are all Albanian nationals, with “some, if not all” having been refused entry to the UK. He told police that he and Venclauskas were making their way along the English coast to Lincoln, where Venclauskas lived. He did not tell police that he had been in Belgium the same day the boat arrived in Shotley. Laurinavicius told the court that when a Border Force searched the boat and said that they had found five people, he replied: “Are you joking, officer?”The trial continues.
