My starter solenoid refused to disengage after engine start last week, causing a small fire that I was fortunate enough to extinguish. I replaced my starter, and found that the red cable was brittle at the connector and in poor general shape. I do have a heat shield on the starter, but it seemed like the better option to replace the cable altogether.
