The mayor of Merritt says his community is as ready as it can be as wildfire activity is expected to increase on the Brunswick Complex burning southwest of the city. “We’re as ready as we could be,” Mayor Goetz said of the possibility of being placed under evacuation order or alert due to the fire. Goetz said the smoke and the blustery winds remain a concern, but the city has plans in place if conditions worsen for Merritt. The mayor said the city has an evacuation plan in place should one be needed.
