That is why the debate should not be reduced to a choice between the state and market.

The crucial question is whether Cuba will have sufficiently democratic institutions to prevent economic power from ultimately capturing political power.
The crucial question is not how much market an economy can accommodate, but who governs that market.
Ultimately, that is what socialism is all about: stopping economic power being concentrated in a few hands.
