(WWAY) — A Leland woman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash that shut down the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 17 near Maco Road for several hours Saturday afternoon. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 3:30 p.m. when a passenger car attempted to turn left from U.S. 17 onto Maco Road and was struck by a southbound tanker truck. Troopers identified the driver of the car as 62-year-old Jacqueline Caison of Leland. The crash also involved an SUV, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, which initially reported the incident as a multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer, a passenger car and an SUV. The collision closed the southbound lanes of U.S. 17 at Maco Road for several hours as emergency crews responded and worked to clear the scene.
