The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) says it has completely lost confidence in FIFA President Gianni Infantino, whose third term as president concludes in March 2027. The union took this position over Infantino’s plan to launch a new subsidiary, the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE). UEFA labeled the withdrawal a “victory for the whole game” but warned that the broader task of rebuilding trust in FIFA’s leadership has only just begun. Similarly, The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) welcomed FIFA’s decision to withdraw its highly controversial proposal to sell a minority private stake in the FIFA World Cup. This recent unilateral and egregious act of poor governance and leadership follows a pattern of missteps and similar behaviour.
