DOWNEY — The St. Francis football team welcomed the highly anticipated return of their star quarterback Shawn Sanders in its Angelus League opener against St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy on Friday night. However, Sanders’ return to action was spoiled as PMA intercepted the Golden Knights’ quarterback five times to take down St. Francis 42-15. St. Francis coach Dean Herrington believes that his quarterback will have better days in front of him as the season progresses. St. Francis’ drive was shut down just as quickly as it began as the Warriors’ defense began to find its groove midway through the second quarter. St. Francis’ search for its first win of the season continues next week at St. Paul, which also sits at 0-6 following a 56-25 loss to Cathedral.
