The motion highlighted the publication of the ‘Living with Rain – Planning for Everyday Life in Glasgow’ by Dr Hoolachan and Dr Lawson of the University of Glasgow. During this week’s net zero committee, questions were raised over the effect blocked gullies and drains were having on local communities. Councillor Stephen Docherty praised the council’s rain garden initiative, shallow hollows that collect rainwater, but asked further questions about the blocked gullies in his ward. The council budget in March included £1 million investment in street rain gardens to deliver nature-based flood prevention. Members of the public can report road gullies which are blocked and are causing nuisance flooding within their community.
