Plans unveiled for construction of new roads depot
['Neil Mcgrory']
Glasgow Times | News
The application, from Transport Scotland, describes a facility including a salt storage barn, salt saturator tank, rainwater harvesting tanks, wash-bay, fuel tank, solar panels, aggregate storage bays, garage, workshop, office and welfare building, staff parking, plant and machinery storage and parking spaces for HGVs.
The location for this depot, which would serve trunk roads in and around North Lanarkshire, would be a plot of land off Old Mollinsburn Road and Mollins Road in Westfield.
A statement from Transport Scotland provided alongside the application explains that North Lanarkshire Council had suggested the depot be located at an alternative site but this was ultimately dismissed by Scottish ministers.
This statement concludes by describing the depot as essential infrastructure and the development would be compliant with all relevant planning policies while incorporating sustainable design principles.
