The SAHRC acknowledged that Kouga had undertaken rehabilitation, refurbishment, improved monitoring and technical investigations, and was taking steps to implement the Public Protector’s remedial action. The SAHRC Report also takes the Nelson Mandel Bay and Buffalo municipalities in the Eastern Cape to task. Kouga response: Kouga Municipal Manager, Charl du Plessis, welcomed the report and said the municipality accepted its recommendations and was already working on them. SAHRC demands continued actionThe Commission has directed Kouga to continue and strengthen rehabilitation until sustained compliance is demonstrated. Also in attendance were Provincial SAHRC leader, Dr Irene Carter, and Legal officer Brandon Ainslee, both who also addressed the gathering.
