News Headline -The University of Lagos (UNILAG) celebrated a landmark moment in its academia-industry partnership on Wednesday, when the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Olajumoke Omoniyi Oduwole, officially took delivery of her new official vehicle, a Nord Automobile assembled right on the university’s campus.
Minister Oduwole, a distinguished alumnus and former lecturer at the UNILAG Faculty of Law, made the symbolic purchase on Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, showcasing the government’s confidence in indigenous innovation.
The Minister’s choice to patronise the locally assembled automobile enterprise is seen as a major endorsement of the Nord UNILAG Assembly Plant, which is the first university-based automobile assembly plant and manufacturing hub in Africa.
Professor Oboh highlighted the strategic importance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nord Automobile, which provides UNILAG students from engineering and other fields with valuable yearly internship opportunities.
“This will go on to motivate many Nigerians to dream out loud and believe in the limitless possibilities that abound in Nigeria for Nigerians,” Professor Oboh asserted.
