More infoThe backlog of unheard Crown Court cases, including for rape and other violent crimes, has fallen in Surrey recently but remains at near record levels. This comes as the government has announced additional Crown Court funding to tackle the ever-growing backlog of cases across England. Not since January to March 2023 has there been a reduction in the Crown Court backlog. It includes a record 13,238 sexual offence cases, including a record 4,086 cases of adult rape and a record 1,759 for child rape. There were a total of 2,594 cases in Surrey’s Crown Court backlog between March and June this year.
