Morocco and the European Union signed an amended agricultural agreement in Brussels on Friday that preserves tariff preferences for products from Morocco’s southern provinces, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported. Moroccan ambassador to the EU Ahmed Réda Chami said the deal reflects a shared commitment to a “partnership of excellence” built on trust and mutual prosperity. The President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, Yanja El Khattat said Friday that the amended agricultural agreement between Morocco and the European Union is a major diplomatic and economic victory for the kingdom. Speaking to MAP, El Khattat underscored that the deal enshrines the principle of inclusivity by extending the same preferential trade conditions to Morocco’s southern provinces as to the rest of the country. European Commission official Matthias Petschke called the recent accord an important step to deepen historic, cultural, and economic ties between Rabat and Brussels.
