The movie Gary Oldman couldn’t get insured to make: “The confidence in me was zero”With a slightly worrying knack for playing villains, Gary Oldman has risen to the top of the Hollywood ranks since he made his screen debut in 1982’s Remembrance, graduating from a modest British actor to an Oscar-winning star. Oldman experienced a period of alcoholism in the years leading up to his debut film, and this was well-documented, including a drunk-driving incident. I didn’t know whether it was going to be any good, but it was going to be my film. If it was no good, then it was no good because of Gary. It’s a shame that Oldman hasn’t directed anything since, though, because he could’ve been the next best British director.
