It's been a busy week for Siemens. Then, a day later, the news broke that Siemens agreed to acquire Defacto Technologies, an EDA software company active in the register-transfer-level design field focused on automated system-on-a-chip (SoC) design creation and integration. The goal, according to the (very busy) Siemens press team is to expand Siemens’ EDA portfolio with capabilities that help customers manage growing SoC complexity through automated SoC design creation, earlier implementation assessment and integrated verification. Well, it certainly demonstrates a commitment by Siemens to broaden its software portfolio, particularly in relation to digital design. And what that means for Siemens customers is that they can expect streamlined strategies to implement these solutions, should they have designs on doing so.
