Although Bukit Timah and Newton are next to each other on the map, each area has its own identity over time. Bukit Timah is best known for enclaves of luxury homes and tracts of nature reserves. Meanwhile, Newton has come into its own as a gateway precinct to the downtown core and the central region. Some hold the position that the greenery or Bukit Timah, coupled with the city centre proximity of Newton, make for a shared and highly desirable district for tenants. Others frown at the relatively high property prices, which they think will result in a lower yield.
