CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town's housing directorate denies giving New Crossroads residents an alternate housing site. The conflicts are said to be over a housing project in Gugulethu, where Nyanga East residents occupied homes after it was completed in 2018. The beneficiaries have warned that the City’s construction of the Myciti Bus lane will not proceed on the land earmarked for their homesResidents say they were issued with letters in 2020 after their applications for housing were approved in 2016. They claim the Nyanga East community rejected them, saying they too had a backlog of housing beneficiaries. They say the MMC for housing and former Mayor Dan Plato earmarked this site as an alternative solution.
