Everything You Need to Know About Buying Your Own Cask of Bruichladdich
['Mark Littler', 'All Posts']
The Whiskey Wash
Bruichladdich does not currently sell whisky directly to the public, so every cask you buy today comes from a historic ownership scheme.
What you can say is that it was “distilled at the Bruichladdich distillery,” because a geographic location cannot be trademarked under UK law.
Your own brand simply has to appear in larger lettering than the distillery description, in line with Scotch Whisky Association regulations.
You also need to monitor the ABV with regular re-gauges, since anything under 40% legally stops being Scotch whisky.
