Florist Jessica Schievella is also trying to combat single-use materials in the wedding industry. After each wedding, Schievella collects the hard goods, such as vases, to be reused at another ceremony, while remaining flowers are composted or donated. By supporting local sustainable initiatives, the movement to increase sustainability in the wedding industry could spread, Watson said. In the meantime, sustainable wedding vendors in Vermont continue to set an example for others seeking to make the industry more eco-friendly.
