Ka Hale Moi, “The Royal House”, rises gently from the foothills of Punchbowl crater, with no surrounding high-rises to disrupt its sweeping views to the city of Honolulu and blue Pacific Ocean beyond. In Hawaiian, Puowaina, an extinct volcanic crater, named as “Hill of Sacrifice” for its historical significance in ancient Hawai’i when rituals, offerings, and burials took place there. From this vantage one can observe building rooftops of early days in Honolulu development: Hawai‘i State Capitol, ‘Iolani Palace, Ali‘iolani Hale, Jonah Kūhio Kalaniana‘ole Federal Building, and McKinley High School. This prime location of Ka Hale Moi also provides convenient access to downtown Honolulu, Straub Hospital, Queens Medical Center, Kuakini Medical Center, and the H-1 freeway in both directions. Ka Hale Moi recently completed its Reserve Study, with building upgrades budgeted accordingly.
