Christchurch And Lyttelton Want Public Infrastructure Under Public Control31 July 2026Over two hundred residents and local workers assembled outside CCHL to show that the public of Christchurch and Lyttelton want public infrastructure under public control.
Today, over two hundred concerned residents and local workers gathered from across Christchurch and Lyttelton to show Christchurch City Holdings Limited (CCHL) that the public are demanding transparency, democratic oversight, and public accountability in the governance of our strategic infrastructure.
Just yesterday, CCHL announced its rejection of the proposal from Dubai-based DP World to privatise the operational control of Lyttelton Port.
Whilst the decision to respect the public mandate against privatisation was upheld in this instance, Keep Our Port Public organiser Harry Robson said that concerns around whether public control of public infrastructure was being subverted remained an ongoing issue, and so justified going ahead with the public activation outside CCHL earlier today.
Keep Our Port Public organiser Harry Robson says that Lyttelton residents remain vigilant around issues affecting the Port.
