The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it does not legally recognise enclaves such as Orania and will administer the upcoming local government elections strictly within South Africa’s legally established municipal boundaries. “The commission does not legally recognise enclaves such as Orania. Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape recorded the highest levels of online registration activity. The commission expects the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to proclaim the election date after the conclusion of the final registration weekend.
