Participants of the consultation workshops on the proposed Nagaland Community Conserved Areas (CCA) Policy held in Tuensang and Mokokchung.
The consultations were organised by the Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) in collaboration with the Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB), the Nagaland Community Conserved Areas Forum (NCCAF) and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).
Participants were briefed on the objectives of the consultations, the rationale for developing a state-level CCA policy, the policy development process and the expected outcomes.
During the discussions, participants recommended that Community Conserved Areas should remain voluntarily conserved under customary governance systems, supported by clearly defined community institutions and a commitment to protecting biodiversity, water sources and culturally significant sites.
The recommendations from the Tuensang and Mokokchung consultations will be incorporated into the draft Nagaland Community Conserved Areas Policy, the release stated.
