More infoIt's believed that thousands of older drivers are 'illegally' on the roads after failing to inform the DVLA.
Motorists are obliged to renew their driving licences once they reach 70 years old.
However, it seems some drivers either forget or are unaware that licences must be renewed every three years thereafter, and health details provided to the DVLA.
Some may neglect to renew at all at 70, resulting in them driving on expired licences.
However, many experts argue that safety measures are not stringent enough, with the Government planning to introduce compulsory eyesight tests for drivers once they turn 70.
