The South African Police Service (SAPS) is turning a new page in its battle against serious and violent crime with the recent acquisition of two cutting-edge helicopters and twelve armoured vehicles, reports Cape {town} Etc. These technological advancements come at a time when the country is grappling with organised crime, particularly incidents such as cash-in-transit heists, hijackings, and armed robberies. The helicopters are expected to facilitate rapid responses to crime scenes, allowing law enforcement to serve South Africans more effectively. ‘The helicopters will enable us to respond rapidly to crime scenes and serve the people of South Africa timeously and effectively,’ Masemola explained. Moreover, the introduction of this new fleet coincides with Operation Shanela II an intensive nationwide campaign aimed at tackling violent crime hotspots through targeted raids, roadblocks, and stop-and-search operations.
