Construction at the Didcot project is scheduled to begin later this year, and is expected to connect to the grid in 2028. The government’s own Clean Power 2030 Action Plan estimates that the UK will need up to 27GW of energy storage capacity in operation by the end of the decade, in addition to 6GW of long-duration energy storage (LDES).
