Father and Son Rescued Near Screwbean SpringA 47-year-old man and his 16-year-old son were rescued by Mohave County Search and Rescue on Wednesday afternoon after spending five hours stranded without water in the desert southeast of Lake Havasu City. The pair had been exploring the backcountry in a rented Jeep Wrangler on July 22 when they turned off Standard Wash and became high-centered on a rugged trail near Screwbean Spring, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. Stuck in the terrain and unable to free the vehicle, they watched their water run out over the course of five hours. What the Sheriff’s Office Wants Off-Roaders to KnowFollowing the rescue, sheriff’s officials urged people heading into the backcountry to plan for trouble before it happens. “Travel in groups with multiple vehicles and bring plenty of extra supplies when recreating in the remote and rugged wilderness areas of Mohave County,” authorities said.
