Leh, July 31: The Ladakh Administration has declared 23 historic sites across the Union Territory as Protected Monuments, marking a significant step towards preserving the region's rich cultural, archaeological and spiritual heritage. The decision brings several historically important sites under statutory protection, paving the way for their scientific conservation, restoration and long-term preservation. Officials said the notification provides a legal framework to safeguard these heritage assets and ensure their protection for future generations. He said the statutory protection would help prevent encroachments, regulate activities around the notified monuments and facilitate systematic conservation and restoration of the sites. The LG said the initiative reflects the administration's commitment to preserving Ladakh's unique civilisational heritage alongside its developmental aspirations.
