Following an executive session, the Appling County Board of Education voted in a split decision between two candidates for interim superintendent due to the retirement of Dr. Janet Goodman, effective September 30. Board members Mark Green and Nicole Perkins voted in favor of the motion to hire Elgin Dixon. Board members Sabrina Turner and Landry Tillman voted against. As the chairman, Dr. Overstreet voted for Elgin Dixon to break the tie. Dixon retired as the Superintendent of Schools for Twiggs County Public Schools.
