Amid UX layoffs, tighter budgets, and ongoing pressure to prove the value of UX work, some have wondered whether the terms “UX” or “user experience” still serve the field well, or whether a new label might better communicate the work’s relevance and impact. Are practitioners moving away from “UX” toward terms like “product,” “experience design,” or “human-centered design”? For example, “UX researcher” was recoded as “UX research”. In addition, our recruitment channels likely reached people with prior exposure to NN/G materials, which tend to favor the term “UX.” ConclusionDespite ongoing discussion about renaming the field, “UX” remains the most widely recognized name for the field among the professionals in our sample.
