The Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) has welcomed the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) report showing that manufacturing attracted the largest share of actualised investments between 2021 and June 2026, describing the sector’s performance as evidence of Zambia’s growing attractiveness as an investment destination.
Mr Umar said the sector also created 46,759 actual jobs, making it the second largest contributor to employment among the sectors monitored.
“Sustained growth of this kind shows that rising investment is translating into real production capacity, value addition and employment, not simply commitments on paper,” Mr Umar said.
He added that manufacturing now contributes nearly 10 percent of Zambia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and accounts for 10.4 per cent of Government tax revenue as of the first quarter of 2026.
Mr Umar also reaffirmed ZAM’s commitment to working with government and other stakeholders to strengthen the competitiveness of Zambia’s manufacturing sector and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
