After reading a July 25 opinion piece by John Riddell, I want to say as a woman I hope none of the candidates for federal office in Colorado or legislators endorse the Save Act suite of bills. It is already illegal for noncitizens to register and vote in federal or state elections. Communities of eligible voters would be unnecessarily burdened by these additional requirements such as married women and transgender Americans who have changed their names, military voters, families impacted by natural disasters, senior citizens, disabled citizens, and people of color. Compared to white citizens, citizens of color are three times more likely to lack documents such as birth certificates, passports or other certificates of citizenship, and they can face difficulties accessing them. For example, according to League Of Women Voters , while approximately half of all American adults possess a passport, two-thirds of Black Americans do not.
