Nurses at the Brant Community Healthcare System are protesting job cuts they say are dangerous to other health-care providers and patients. The Ontario Nurses’ Association, the union representing the workers, said the banner was signed by almost 90 per cent of nurses working in various hospital departments. “BCHS is trying to balance budgets by sacrificing patient and worker safety,” Erin Ariss, provincial president of ONA, said in a news release. “This will cost more in the long run because the reality is unsafe staffing conditions lead to devastating patient outcomes. Despite being understaffed, our members are working diligently to provide care with fewer resources and increasingly acute and complex patients.”
