Legal expertise among Catholic Sisters is essential as the Church navigates increasingly complex governance, safeguarding, and institutional challenges, the newly elected Chairperson of the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya (AOSK) has said.
Addressing participants in the July 30–31 Conference of the Catholic Sisters in Legal Profession (CASILEP) from across Africa in Nairobi, Sr. Prof. Jacinta Adhiambo said today's Church requires women Religious with both spiritual wisdom and legal competence to respond faithfully to emerging legal and ethical realities.
Sr. Jacinta identified safeguarding, governance, administration of Church property, labour relations, constitutional compliance, child protection, environmental justice, digital ethics, human rights, and conflict resolution among areas requiring informed and faithful leadership.
“This is where Catholic Sisters occupy a unique and indispensable place within Religious Life,” Sr. Jacinta said during her Thursday, July 30 address at the conference held at Donum Dei, Roussel House in Karen, Nairobi, adding that Sisters trained in canon and civil law stand “at the intersection of faith and justice.”
