The U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on July 29 advanced two water infrastructure-related bills led by U.S. Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) to the full Senate for consideration. The committee passed both the Fort Peck Water System Reauthorization Act, S. 3635, and the Cooperative Watershed Management Program Reauthorization Act of 2026, S. 4041. “Access to safe water is a basic necessity, and I’m thrilled to see that my bipartisan bills improving water infrastructure in Montana have passed out of committee and are one step closer to becoming law,” Sen. Daines said. “It’s critical that we implement common-sense solutions to water management, and I’ll continue fighting diligently to get these bills across the finish line.” If enacted, S. 3635 would reauthorize the Fort Peck Dry Prairie Rural Water System, one of four regional water systems in Montana.
