I installed a drink / cell phone holder a few years ago. I have yet to use it as a drink holder, but use it religiously as a cell phone holder. On rough roads, it is great. For really rugged off roading, the phone inevitably pops out. I am thinking about giving up on it, but the metal mount bracket is really solid and in a good location for me - so i'd like to modify it to use a magsafe (or similar magnetic mount), but want something that will keep the phone mounted when bouncing around... really strong magsafe mount?
