Under the changes, tenants will receive $1,000 to $1,500 in compensation for moving expenses, depending on the size of the rental unit.
“When tenants are evicted for redevelopment, I want to ensure we give tenants proper compensation.”
Housing manager Ross Soward cautioned, however, that increasing compensation for displaced tenants could be a barrier to creating new housing.
A staff report noted the City of Victoria’s tenant compensation is already among the most comprehensive in the province.
