Questions about his offense and ultimate role are the reason he's still better described as a trade chip than an untouchable cornerstone. Bluntly, Thompson is a terrible shooter. With averages of 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists last year, Thompson clearly still found ways to contribute for the Rockets. If he never figures out how to threaten defenses from the perimeter, none of that will matter; playoff opponents will totally ignore him, scheming him off the floor or, perhaps worse, crippling the Rockets' attack if they refuse to bench him.
