WORTHINGTON — The Worthington City Council and District 518 Board of Education met in special session Tuesday to discuss the latest conceptual design plans for the Worthington hockey arena, which were presented by SitelogIQ. An additional meeting room and dryland training room concept plan was presented with an additional cost of $725,000. Discussion of the proposed one-sheet ice arena on District 518 property (behind the Learning Center) turned to its multi-purpose use. This conceptual floor plan includes an additional meeting room and dryland training room for an additional $725,000 to the $15.8 million cost of the one-sheet ice arena in Worthington. Heitkamp also mentioned he’s personally never seen an ice arena with a sand surface and insinuated that a concrete floor would be valuable for community events outside of the normal ice season.
