The Orioles have designated catcher Chadwick Tromp for assignment, the team announced Friday. Tromp, 31, has bounced back and forth between the Braves and O’s for the past few seasons, serving as a defensive-minded backup in both Baltimore and Atlanta. He’s tallied 51 plate appearances between the two clubs this season and produced just a .163/.160/.184 batting line. He’s a career .208/.215/.344 hitter in 229 big league plate appearances and a .242/.315/.395 hitter in parts of nine Triple-A seasons (spanning 1625 plate appearances). He’s walked only three times in his 229 plate appearances as a major leaguer and fanned at a near-30% clip.
