Poland's Ministry of National Defense officially confirmed Friday that the object which crashed into eastern Poland overnight Thursday was a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile, upgrading language that had previously described the identification only as a preliminary assessment.
Polish forces initially tracked roughly 20 aerial targets that could potentially approach Polish territory during Russia's overnight barrage against Ukraine.
Tomczyk warned that "such situations or similar provocations will occur," and said Poland needed to simultaneously build what he called social resilience to withstand them.
Poland's Foreign Ministry summoned Russia's ambassador over the missile's fall on Polish territory, a diplomatic step that had not yet occurred as of Thursday's initial reporting.
Ukraine's acting Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha had separately stated Thursday that a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile flew over Polish territory overnight, a characterization Warsaw's official confirmation now aligns with.
