The State Intelligence Service (SIS), in a landmark moment for The Gambia’s democratic transition and ongoing Security Sector Reform process, yesterday validated its long-awaited SIS Bill 2026, positioning the Service as the nation’s premier intelligence institution. The landmark legislation is designed to reposition the SIS as a modern, accountable, and trusted intelligence service capable of safeguarding national security while upholding human rights and democratic oversight. Ousman Sowe described the event as “another significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to reform, recast, recalibrate, and reposition the State Intelligence Service as the premier intelligence service of The Gambia.” Addressing these threats, he stressed, requires a modern intelligence service operating under a clear, robust, and legal framework. He emphasised that the transformation of the National Intelligence Agency into the State Intelligence Service represents more than a change of name.
